Australia’s Best Begin the Cape to Cape

More than 400 mountain bike riders have flooded into Western Australia’s South West in anticipation of traversing over 210km in the third annual Cape to Cape MTB event, October 14-17, 2010. The field, which includes some of the world’s best, will brave four days of rugged conditions in a unique event that has become a regular test of endurance. Joining the event for the first time this year is former Commonwealth Games athlete and European World Cup competitor, Chris Jongewaard. He will be joined by current National and Oceanic Champion and former Beijing Olympian Dan McConnell along with current Top 5 ranked National Cross-country Champion, Shaun Lewis.  Local boy Robbie Rhodes will be riding the event for the first time along with top 10 marathon endurance rider Troy Glennan and New South Wales rider Josh Carlson. Stage Four Results

Cape to Cape MTB 2010, a four day endurance stage race, ended today in a photo finish. Stage 4 saw riders leave from Riverglen Chalets in Margaret River and finish up at the old Dunsborough boat ramp just under 60km later. The Cape to Cape MTB has become a regular test for endurance for local, national and international MTB’ers over the three years it has been running. In a race for the day’s title, Chris Jongewaard and Dan McConnell rode each other’s wheels the entire day and only a bike length separated them at the finish line with Chris just taking out the honours. McConnell finished the leg in 2 hours 3 minutes and 46 seconds, Jongewaard with a time of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 45 seconds. A fourth stage win wasn’t enough to earn Jongewaard the title of …
