Over the past 6 years the Sundown Shootout in The Pines has been a key part of the Cape to Cape MTB. It has allowed the every day rider to get up close to the elite riders as they race for time credits and a winners cheque whilst also giving the locals, through MRORCA, a chance to show off their skills on the awesome trails they have helped build and maintain.
For Year Ten of Cape to Cape MTB we are changing it up and the Sundown Shootout will be replaced by a FAT TYRE CRIT event in the centre of town. The grounds of Margaret River High School will play host to the event as the Top 10 women and then the Top 20 men all race around a short 1km course in criterium format.
The event idea has come from one of our elite riders after he raced in a similar style event overseas last year. This format is more common in road racing but watching the Top 20 smash and crash around a CX style course as they battle for the winners cheque and the all-important time credits promises to be a spectators delight. Don’t miss it on Friday!
The action will occur at the following destinations:
4:00pm Friday 20th October
Margaret River High School
158 Bussell Hwy, Margaret River
5:30pm onwards, Friday 20th October
Carpark enclosed by Tunbridge St and Charles W Ave
The Event Village Settlers Tavern (Rear Car Park)
We’re petty excited to announce that we’ll also be introducing a kids race, ages 12-15 years.
Have a budding MTB star of the future in your family? The Cape to Cape in association with the Kalamunda Collective and Perth Mountain Bike Club are offering 20 juniors the opportunity to race at the Fridays’ Fat Tyre Criterium event!
The grounds of Margaret River High School will play host to the event where 20 junior riders will be chosen to race around the same short 1km CX style course, just before the elite riders.
With limited spots available for this unique opportunity, junior riders will need to get in quick and apply using the following link: click here
We will announce the lucky winners on Sunday the 15th of October.
