Stage Four Results

Cape to Cape MTB 2010, a four day endurance stage race, ended today in a photo finish. Stage 4 saw riders leave from Riverglen Chalets in Margaret River and finish up at the old Dunsborough boat ramp just under 60km later. The Cape to Cape MTB has become a regular test for endurance for local, national and international MTB’ers over the three years it has been running. In a race for the day’s title, Chris Jongewaard and Dan McConnell rode each other’s wheels the entire day and only a bike length separated them at the finish line with Chris just taking out the honours. McConnell finished the leg in 2 hours 3 minutes and 46 seconds, Jongewaard with a time of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 45 seconds. A fourth stage win wasn’t enough to earn Jongewaard the title of …

Stage One Results

Stage One of the 2010 Cape to Cape MTB flew across the start line this afternoon, despite some cold and windy weather that had some riders reaching for their jackets. The sun came out later in the day, and shone on current National Champion Dan McConnell, who cleaned up the first leg in just over 90 mins. With over 400 riders assembled at Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse for the start of the race, it was Jongewaard and McConnell who broke out in front of the pack. The pair set a cracking pace from the outset breaking away up Skippy Rock Rd to have a 30 second lead over the chasing pack at the 4km point. The pace did not let up, with the boys working together to smash through the Augusta forest.¬† By the half way point, the two riders were …

Stage Two Results

Stage Two of the 2010 Cape to Cape MTB yesterday saw an early sunny start from picturesque Hamelin Bay. Once again Chris Jongewaard broke free from the pack, took an early commanding lead and set the pace for the rest of the day. Jongewaard led the field of 400 riders up Caves Road and then dipped down into a maze of singletrack through the stunning Boranup Forrest. Riders’ skills were put to the test as they crossed a variety of terrain from speedy downhill to the rocky remnants of an old quarry to a tangled web of overgrown canopy. Cutting a path through the Leeuwin Estate vineyards and then down onto Surfer’s Point, Jongewaard traversed 65km in just 2:21:43. Rockstar rider Troy Glennan came second with 2:24:41 followed by Shaun Lewis just over a minute later. One second behind Shaun …
