Stage One Results

Stage One of the 2010 Cape to Cape MTB flew across the start line this afternoon, despite some cold and windy weather that had some riders reaching for their jackets. The sun came out later in the day, and shone on current National Champion Dan McConnell, who cleaned up the first leg in just over 90 mins. With over 400 riders assembled at Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse for the start of the race, it was Jongewaard and McConnell who broke out in front of the pack. The pair set a cracking pace from the outset breaking away up Skippy Rock Rd to have a 30 second lead over the chasing pack at the 4km point. Stage Two Results

Stage Two of the 2010 Cape to Cape MTB yesterday saw an early sunny start from picturesque Hamelin Bay. Once again Chris Jongewaard broke free from the pack, took an early commanding lead and set the pace for the rest of the day. Jongewaard led the field of 400 riders up Caves Road and then dipped down into a maze of singletrack through the stunning Boranup Forrest. Riders’ skills were put to the test as they crossed a variety of terrain from speedy downhill to the rocky remnants of an old quarry to a tangled web of overgrown canopy. Cutting a path through the Leeuwin Estate vineyards and then down onto Surfer’s Point, Jongewaard traversed 65km in just 2:21:43.
