The Cape to Cape MTB are proud to announce we have extended our initial partnership with BikeDr who will now be our charity partner for 2016!
BikeDr. is a cycle service business, but their structure is very different. BikeDr. is a social enterprise that financially contributes to Dismantle, a charity that benefits at-risk young people in Perth and WA. All profits raised through BikeDr are funneled towards Dismantle’s Engagement and Mentor programs which finds out how at-risk youth are feeling, where they want to go and what’s going to get them there.
BikeDr accomplish this through a ten session earn-a-bike program called BikeRescue which uses bicycles and bike mechanics to achieve great outcomes. Young people work alongside mechanics to fully restore two old bicycles in a mentored workshop environment. One bike is donated to a local charity as a way for participants to ‘earn’ the second for themselves. The program is designed to reach out to disengaged young people.
BikeRescue also works with partner organisations to reconnect participants to education and employment opportunities, helping to booth their self-esteem, build tangible skills and connect them to a positive future.
On the surface, BikeRescue is all about bike mechanics. But underneath, they’re about developing powerful mentor relationships with participants. No one can predetermine what challenges each young person is facing in their lives. So BikeDr work with them, over ten weeks, to discover a better future and set them on the path towards it.
How can I help BikeDr? How can BikeDr help me?
That’s easy! BikeDr will be providing a range of rider services at the Cape to Cape MTB 2016, and all proceeds from these services will go straight to BikeDr for their Dismantle and BikeRescue programs to help at-risk youth in need. See a list of services and donation opportunities below:
