Four-time Olympian Rebecca Henderson returns to Cape to Cape

3 October 2024

When Rebecca Henderson lines up for stage one on Thursday October 17, it will be the first time in seven years she has raced the iconic Cape to Cape MTB race.

The four-time Olympian and dual World Championship medallist Henderson last rode in 2017, and returns following another year racing on the world stage. In July she competed at her fourth Olympic Games, finishing a career best 13th, narrowly missing the top 10.

A month later she claimed 10th at the World Championships and continued to build her late season form with a podium finish at the UCI WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Lake Placid last weekend.

"The year has been another pretty turbulent one but it seems like I'm hitting top shape just in time for C2C with my first XCO podium of the season a few days ago," Henderson said.

She has one final World Cup for the year in Canada before returning to Australia and Cape to Cape.

"In all seriousness this weekend is my last race of the season and then it's just two weeks until C2C. I will travel home for a few days before flying over to WA, I won't do any more training but I am sure that with another full season in the legs I should still be fit to enjoy the beautiful stages ahead of us."

Cape to Cape has developed and grown since Henderson last hit the trails of the South West region of Western Australia, though her favourite parts remain the same. The pristine location and the social side of the four day race.

"It's been a long time since I was there but the atmosphere and environment at C2C is special. I love the social side and meeting new people with a shared passion and different stories.

Henderson's sister is joining her for a holiday and are both looking forward to exploring the region when Henderson is not on the bike.

"It's in such a beautiful part of the world and really it is a great opportunity to have a little holiday with my sister, we hope to spend some time sharing wine and good food, it was not difficult to persuade her to join me."

The 2024 Cape to Cape MTB, runs 17-20, October starting in Cape Leeuwin and finished in Cape Naturaliste. The four-stage race features nearly 200 kilometres of racing and visits Nannup for the first time.
