C2C The Ultimate MTB Escape

26 September 2018

When Cape to Cape was first held in 2008, the original vision was to introduce a new major mountain biking event to the magnificent South West of Western Australia that engaged the community and provided riders of all standards something unique, something they would talk about and something they could share with mates and family.

One hundred mountain bikers set off on the outstanding trails of South West of Western Australia with the simple plan of enjoying some time on their bikes, explore the region’s stunning beaches, the historic coastline, the tall timber forests and National Parks, and sample Margaret River’s glorious wine country.

More than a decade later the Cape to Cape dream lives on with the event developing into Australasia’s longest running and biggest MTB multi-stage endurance race.

Cape to Cape Race Director, Sally Hill said the passion and dedication of the early riders laid the foundations of a fun event that has become a national mountain biking icon, embraced by riders from far and wide.

“From the outset we saw Cape to Cape as more “a ride not a race” but even the most social riders can’t help but get caught up in the rivalries that four days of stage racing brings out in friends and strangers alike. Many return to catch up with those they’ve met and ridden with in previous years. Sharing stories and a beer after each day’s race is as much a part of the experience as time spent in the saddle.”

“Cape to Cape allows riders of all different levels to experience the South West first hand and embodies the very essence of freedom and sense of satisfaction that mountain biking brings. It is about having a great time with mates, while tackling challenging climbs, the best single track in the state and taking in an incredible array of destinations and amazing views.”

“Each day’s racing finishes at the event village with local hospitality on offer. Every stage is unique and will be super enjoyable with the final day starting and finishing at the renowned Colonial Brewery, the perfect place to celebrate achieving something truly epic,” Sally said.

Sally said that organising team have worked hard each year to improve the course and rider experience, while always maintaining the friendly, social vibe synonymous with Cape to Cape.

“With the assistance of the local community and support from riders from across Australia and overseas, Cape to Cape now holds the title as Australasia’s longest running and biggest MTB multi-stage endurance race.”

“The three year funding announcement by the Western Australian government is wonderful news. We look forward to working with Tourism WA, the local communities and riders to continue to build on the outstanding tradition of this event, maintaining the friendly, social vibe that has become the event’s trademark, with everyone ‘frothing’ about their rider and family experience, spreading the word and coming back year after year,” she said.
